Skatepark plans to be heard at consultation event

February 15, 2023

A consultation event is taking place today to finalise the redevelopment plans for the outdoor skatepark in Selby.

On Wednesday, February 15, at 5:30pm, skatepark users and other interested parties will be welcomed at the drop-in consultation event held at Selby Leisure Centre. At the event, skatepark design contractors from Bendcrete Leisure will be on hand to discuss in detail their initial designs to extend and improve the skatepark, listen to suggestions and comments from users and will agree on the final project design. The project currently includes plans to remove the fencing around the park and to emplace picnic benches nearby, while giving the area an overall spruce up.

The extended skatepark will include a quarter pipe with pocket, extended quarter pipe, ledges and grind rails. The project, costing £150,000, is part of the leader of Selby District Council, Cllr Mark Crane’s long-standing commitment to ensure the outdoor facility is secured and improved for future generations. He said: “Many years ago, I made a commitment that this facility would be improved and this event is a chance for the skatepark users to come along and find out more about our initial proposals. “Importantly at this event we’ll be able to talk through in details what we’ve got in our proposals but also get direct feedback from those at the event so we can make sure that the final designs for the skatepark deliver what the users need to be there.” Anyone who is unable to attend the event can also email communications@selby.gov.uk ahead of the event to share their views. Further details about the plans will be released in before construction works begins later this year.

The consultation regarding the future designs for the skatepark will take place on Wednesday, February 15. (09-02-230 SU)
